The Number one fighting Irish of Notre Dame vs. the number two Alabama Crimson Tide: the 2013 BCS National Championship was a match between two capable teams and two fanatical fan bases. Alabama came out on top 42-14 winning their second title in a row and third in 4 years.
The Crimson Tide was unstoppable on every cylinder of the ball, and running back Eddie Lacy ran for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns while quarterback AJ McCarron threw 4 touchdowns and tore up the fighting Irish defense.
The Tide came out off the bat and went 83 yards on the first drive, and already we saw that it was going to be a long night for the Irish. The score at the end of the first half was Alabama in the lead 28-0.
Alabama took off in the second half and Notre Dame wasn’t able to catch up. Senior Linebacker Manti Te’o played poorly. Notre Dame quarterback Evrett Goldson went 21 for 36 on throws and threw for over 200 yards.
The Irish just didn’t have the intensity or defense to keep up with a team like Alabama on such a big stage. With this win, Alabama topped of the seventh straight National Championship for the SEC.Alabama became the first college team in over 19 years to win 3 National Championships in 4 years.
Many fans were displeased with the result of this blowout and were expecting more of a competitive game. The domination continued for the Crimson Tide as they yet again hoisted the glass ball at mid field on a Monday night in January.
