Once again the Super Bowl comes down to the wire. And this year there was some strange scenes. Besides the wacky commercials (Go Daddy, Doritos, etc.) there was a power outage that lasted nearly 30 minutes.
Once we got past that it already seemed as if the game was over with a 28-6 lead for the Ravens but the 49ers came out firing. After a record 109 yard kick return by ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick answered with a 15 yard run himself which is a Super Bowl record as well as the kick return.
The game went all 9ers until there final drive where they got held until 4th down when things went really bad. After a set of bad calls they were forced to go for it down by 5 on the 5 and caused a huge controversy that will haunt them forever ensued.
With 1:56 seconds left Colin dropped back to a huge blitz forcing him to throw it back corner. (To clarify the rule in the NFL is no contact after 5 yards between a wide receiver and corner.) now you may wonder why I tell you that’s and that’s because there was clear holding 7 yards into Michael Crabtree’s route.
This disrupted the play and caused a turnover by the 9ers and essentially ended the game.
If there was a penalty called, SanFrancisco would get the ball on the 1 yard line with a first and goal.
Although it was not to be this call was clear and obvious and yet was not made.
In all honesty I could not be more disappointed in the refs but they are human after all, in my mind all calls went the Ravens way but it is what it is.
Another nail bitter results in a happy Ray Lewis retirement party and a championship to Baltimore.
