Freshman Girls Basketball should practice every week during their off-season because they have energy before the upcoming season in November 2024. Langley is very excited for the Freshman Girls Basketball Team to play against other high schools.
However, practices in the off-season have some limitations that are part of Fairfax County’s Out of Season policies. They are limited by Fairfax policies, which has restrictions on basketball scrimmages.
“We can’t do 5 on 5 scrimmaging during the season,’’ Langley Girls’ Basketball Coach Amanda Baker said. “We are able to do a lot more team concepts in addition to the sort of skill development we do in the off-season.”
The season officially begins on November 11th, 2024. Sophomore Riley Losick and her basketball teammates are training for the season every week. The off-season training for the 2025 basketball season started in the fall of 2024.
“While it’s a lot of work and requires a lot of time management,“ Sophomore Riley Losick said, “it’s a lot of fun and I’ve become more confident.”
The Freshman Girls Basketball team held tryouts on November 11, 2024 in Langley.
“On the off season for basketball, I mainly do drills. Also, it [takes] a lot of building endurance [to] be prepared for tryouts,” Losick said.
Perhaps they should have played basketball and cross country at different times at Langley High School. Additionally, some Langley students should transition to other activities than basketball.
“Playing a sport in high school, especially more than one, is a huge commitment,” Losick said. “You have to come to every practice and train like it’s the tryout everyday.”
The Freshman Girls Basketball team practices a lot during the preseason when they have more time.
“For every sport you play, the more you practice the better you’ll be. In cross country, it is important to show up to practice 6 days a week and do our workout right if you want to be competitive,” Losick said.
