Every few weeks, the Saxon Matchmaker pairs up two students and sends them off to a local restaurant for yummy food and (hopefully) engaging conversation. It’s our version of the good old-fashioned blind date. We put up $30 for good eats and the couples take it from there.

About the daters

Chandler: I live a semi- nomadic lifestyle. I hang with friends and I’m really into music. I go to a lot of dubstep concerts and my favorite artists are Notorious and Eminem. I also play lacrosse and plan on playing in college.
Brittany: I play basketball and soccer atLangley and I watch a lot of college football. I basically just hang out with friends and do normal things other than that.

Their type

Chandler: I like girls who are chill, relaxed and just nice. I find exotic looking girls attractive and I look for girls who are open-minded and speak their mind at the same time. I see this as an opportunity to get to know someone.
Brittany: I look for a guy that can make me laugh; and as far as looks go, good eyes make a huge difference. I also find it attractive when a guy plays sports.

The date

3:30pm, Coastal Flats at Tysons Corner Mall

Chandler: When I first saw her I thought, “Oh word, that’s Brittany.”

Brittany: I was really glad it wasn’t someone weird when we were first introduced. We didn’t really know each other but I guess we were kind of acquaintances, which made the situation more comfortable and less awkward.

Chandler: When we first walked into the restaurant Read Neal awkwardly sniped at us. She was leaving as we walked in.

Brittany: We sat down at our table and started talking. I ordered a chicken salad for dinner.

Chandler: I ordered crab cakes.

Brittany: We talked about what we liked to do and the conversation went pretty well. It wasn’t awkward at all.

Chandler: We found a lot of stuff to talk about. We talked about life, relationships and philosophy about school.

Brittany: He ordered me a flourless chocolate waffle for dessert, which was really good. The date went a lot better than expected, and I think we’ll talk as friends after this.

Chandler: I’d describe the overall date as a ‘thumbs-up,’ and feel like we came out of this as friends.
