Fifteen members of Langley High School’s debate team spent their Saturday at South Lakes High School for a WACFL tournament. This was the team’s 4th competition of the year. Leading the team was new coaches Gifford Krivak (English) and Christopher Rademacher (German.) Aimee Cho expressed her gratitude towards the two of them saying, “I’m really grateful that they’ve stepped in to coach the team this year. They’ve been so supportive, both at the practices and the tournaments!” After losing former coach Marissa Brooks, the team has been going through a rebuilding year under the leadership of captains Sabrina Khan, Ashley Kwon, and Sam Kobor.
The tournament proved to be a successful one for Langley, with partners Andrew Havasy and Sabrina Khan placing 2nd out of 71 teams in Public Forum Debate, and sophomore Aimee Cho placing 3rd out of 27 people in Original Oratory with her speech. Havasy, Khan, and Cho all qualified to compete at the next level of competition, Metrofinals, which will be held on Mar. 15.
“The tournament itself was amazing and debate is so much fun, especially when all the practices and preparation pay off,” said junior Havasy.
