Langley High School is known for its challenging academics and high expectations. Juggling athletics and a demanding workload isn’t easy, but the Langley girls varsity volleyball team makes it look like a piece of cake. With a team grade point average of 3.888, and a season record of 18-8, it is clear these girls are very dedicated both on and off the court.
“Our team definitely does homework a lot, we cram in a lot on bus rides to away games and at home games while watching JV and freshman play,” said senior Christine Baek. Their hard work continues to pay off, as the varsity team claimed the AVCA Team Academic Award, for the fifth consecutive year in a row.
“I think it’s really important to have athletics in school, in combination with the athletics they do, it builds a special kind of camaraderie and teaches them how to work together,” said varsity head coach Susan Shifflett.
The students agree that being an athlete is beneficial because, “you learn to manage your time, work well with others, and manage pressure,” said senior Kathryn Caine, varsity middle back/outside hitter.
