Saxon Matchmaker – Disaster Date

Junior Ellie Glasgow and senior Chris Diner pose at Panera before their date.

5:30 pm, Busara’s at Reston Town Center

Ellie: The first thing I thought when I saw him was that he was dressed really nicely.

Chris: I thought she looked smoking hot.

Ellie: As we were walking to the restaurant there were two women smoking on the street. He went up to them and said, “Smoking kills!” and then they started yelling at us. They said, “We really needed to know that. Thanks,” in a sarcastic way.

Chris: When we first got to Busara, we talked about a recent car accident.

Ellie: We both got wonton soup, and he also got a salad.

Chris: We talked about how bad the restaurant was.

Ellie: At first, the date and conversation wasn’t awkward. But as the date went on, there were a bunch of moments of silence. I’m also a stickler for manners, and he didn’t take off his hat for the whole time

Chris: It was kind of awkward. There were several minutes of just straight texting [our other friends.]

Ellie: Then his friend called him to talk, so I just sat there while he was talking on the phone. I thought Chris was going to hang up, but he just kept going and going.

Chris: We were basically using our phones for the majority of the date.

Ellie: I felt really awkward so I left earlier than expected. I got my mom to come pick me up, so he decided to go to Big Bowl to meet up with the other couple. We walked outside together, and then said good-bye. There was no hug.

Chris: Overall, the date was just really short and awkward.

Ellie: Overall, I was kind of surprised that he didn’t try harder to make conversation with me.
