Spring break is the one of the most anticipated vacations for high school students. Despite how late spring break is this year, many students are still planning to travel to their favorite vacation spots, while others are sticking to a vigorous study schedule. Different responsibilities and course loads for students of different ages mean that each grade level at Langley tends to spend its spring break a little differently.
Freshman
For Langley Freshman, the lack of AP course work and exams leads to no academic responsibilities and plenty of time to relax. Out of 50 freshman surveyed, 46 freshman said they were either traveling or staying at home to pursue a week full of rest and relaxation. “I plan on spending my Spring Break at home just relaxing on my couch, since college is like two years away and I don’t have to worry,” said freshman Hoonie Kim.
Sophomore
As students move into their second year in high school, students begin to consider putting work over play. Out of 50 sophomore students, 32 said that they are going to mainly focus on relaxing, but mix school work in throughout the week. “I’ll be spending half my break going to places like the beach and Busch Gardens, but taking some time to visit colleges like William and Mary,” said sophomore Preet Sohal.
Junior
One of the most stressful and important years in high school is junior year. Facing multiple AP Exams, final grades, and overall intense work loads, the majority of juniors stray away from spending their spring break on leisure and focus instead on school. Out of 50 juniors, only 21 are spending their vacation on a fun trip. College visits are one of the most popular ways for juniors to spend their spring breaks. “I am visiting about eight colleges this spring break, because this summer I will be so busy. Visiting schools [during the summer] would be a major inconvenience and this way I can get the visits out of the way,” Said junior Mary Fouse.
Senior
With spring break so late into the year, most seniors have already received their college decisions. This means that spring break presents the perfect time to relax. Many seniors, such as Gabriella Gricius, will be taking cruises. SGA President Pasha Mostaghim’s spring break plans include “Miami and amnesia.” Out of 50 Langley seniors, a resounding 39 say that they will be traveling somewhere to cut loose and relax for the whole week.
