Ever the advocate for Langley, the PTSA has taken on yet another project to benefit students and faculty. In response to requests for more healthy options in the cafeteria, a mini salad bar was introduced to the cafeteria today, Monday Jan. 9.
The PTSA has been working with FCPS Nutrition Services for a long time to get the salad bar installed. For $2.75, students can get a full salad with a variety of delicious and nutritious toppings, including grilled chicken, hummus, beef, tomatoes, onions, peppers, broccoli, pickles, and olives. “I like the toppings I can put on my salad,” said junior Sierra Webb. The salad also comes with a soft pretzel and a drink.
Sophomore Ava Shomaker is also a fan of the new salad bar. “It’s pretty cool,” she said after trying it.
Faculty members seem to be enjoying the additional lunch option as well. “It is nice to have a variety of things to choose from. I’ve been looking forward to it,” said special education teacher Ms. Margo Wingo.
However, as with any new intiative, there are some who aren’t so fond of the new salad bar. Sophomore Anusheh Kafi thinks the “mini” salad is just too tiny to constitute a real lunch. “It’s awkwardly small,” she said.
The PTSA encourages students to try the new salad bar, which can be found in the middle lunch line. Students can share their opinions at www.langleyptsa.org.
