Before I went to the Langley Fashion Show, I was confused as to how the theme of a Masquerade would work, considering the last thing anyone wants when they’re onstage is to be unrecognizable (unless you dance like I do).
I have to say, though, I found the theme to be both inventive and fairly cohesive, though I think the background story about Tricia looking for her mask (I assume this was a play on Fashion Marketing teacher Mrs. Tricia Poythress’s name) to be a bit confusing, as I don’t think the audience ever saw her mask.
Other than that, though, I think this year’s show was the best I’ve seen in the past four years I’ve been at Langley. A bit of this is probably that it’s the last one I’ll see as a Langley student, and because I had a lot of friends in the show, but I think more than anything this only heightened my appreciation for all the hard work that goes into creating an event of this proportion.
Within the first five minutes of my arrival, tickets were sold out (shout out to the Scope for hooking me up with a ticket way in advance). Seats were being guarded so ferociously I was reminded of the opening night of “The Dark Knight Rises,” in which I was squashed between a heavyset couple and a chatty preteen.
My favorite part of the show is always the faculty modeling, because it’s so fun to see Langley staff all dressed up and to obsess over their adorable children. This year’s definitely did not disappoint, and my personal favorite was Principal Matt Ragone’s dapper son, Mikey.
I thought the trends were especially on point this year as well. I remember in years past, there have been some trends that were both not worn by the Langley student body or anyone under the age of twenty living outside of New York City. The trends selected were really representative of Langley as a whole.
Student design was also one of the highlights for me, because I always enjoy looking at what more talented, artistic people can create, since the extent of my artistic creativity is a crooked stick figure. Some of the outfits were really interesting and came from students I didn’t even know were interested in design.
All in all, I found this year’s fashion show to be extremely well done at every point. There wasn’t a time in which I regretted coming: on the contrary, all I kept thinking was how glad I was that I didn’t miss my last show at Langley.
Congratulations to directors junior Caroline Mannon and senior Elizabeth Regan for producing a fantastic show!
