After school on Wednesday, an excited crowd of thespians sat in the auditorium, anxiously waiting for the revealing of this year’s spring play.
All fell silent when Ms. Jaffe, the head theater director, announced that this year’s spring play will be The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby.
Although most Saxons may not recognize this play, Ms. Jaffe believes her production will be “really special.”
The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby is an eight and a half hour long adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel, performed in two parts. Ms. Jaffe hopes to use the abridged version, which will result in a two hour long performance.
The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby takes place in Victorian England during the early 19th century.
Although the tale focuses on Nicholas Nickleby, other amusing characters add various subplots as part of Nickleby’s adventures.
Those interested in auditioning should contact Ms. Jaffe to receive the audition forms.
Auditions will take place next week on Monday and Tuesday either during Saxon Time or after school, and actors should come with a prepared monologue (excerpts from Shakespeare and similar authors are not eligible).
For those who do receive a role in the play, Ms. Jaffe is certain that “it will be an experience like no other.”
