Election week has come. After a month of promotion among candidates, the saxons get to choose who they want as their SGA class officers. Besides creating witty name rhymes and unsupported promises, what is the story behind running for SGA?
The Saxon Scope sat down with a contender for sohomore class president, Clare DaBaldo, to recount her experience in running for office.
SS: What inspired you to run for sophomore class president?
CD: I have been part of SCA since elementary school, and Freshman year I was secretary. I had a great time but I realized that I had a lot of ideas that weren’t coming together. So I decided to run for president.
SS: What did you do to promote yourself?
CD: Well, I had a bunch of posters throughout the school, but i also used a lot of social media to promote myself. Facebook, twitter, and I actually had some friends Instagram my posters!
SS: How would you describe the election process?
CD: The election process was kind of long; we had basically a month of campaigning and then a week of voting. It was good because there was time to get your ideas across and campaign, but I think people started to lose interest.
SS: What advice would you give someone planning to run next year?
CD: My advice to future candidates is don’t make false promises in order to get you elected. Make a reasonable and fun platform and just be you.
SS: Overall would you say you’ve had a good experience?
CD: I had a great time and I think I made a lot of friends through the process that I wouldn’t have made otherwise.
