This morning Algebra 2 students woke up prepared to take their SOL. All the students reported to their appropriate locations and sat down to take the test.
All went well until the students tried to log onto the SOL server; out of all the Algebra 2 students, only about 35 students in total were able to actually take the test this morning. The other students who received an error screen were not able to continue the test. After one hour of waiting, the SOL was canceled for the students who were not able to take the test. Students reacted in both a positive and negative way.
Sam Tappan, a sophomore, was not too thrilled saying, “I was very upset that they kept us waiting for an hour due to the inadequate preparedness of the SOL program.”
Sophomore Melissa McHenry was also very disappointed saying, “I studied too long and too hard to have it end up like this.”
Both students agreed that they are not happy and believe that Pearson (the group/network in charge of the SOL) should have organized a backup or something that could allow the students to continue taking the test.
However, some students were relieved that they had more time to study for the SOL. “I’m glad it was canceled because I didn’t study and we had an hour to do whatever we wanted to,” said sophomore John Anderson.
After speaking with Nick Choobineh from IT, the faculty has a good idea that the main cause of the problem was a glitch with the network. “We don’t know if it was Langley’s network that was down, or the provider whose server was down,” said Choobineh.
Luckily, the server was up and running again in time for the Algebra 2 Honors students to take the test as normal.
