Today, June 7, I had the pleasure of attending career day for juniors. I was able to learn about different careers that I may end up pursuing.
First thing, I listened to football player Ken Harvey’s speech about career choices and how our interests can lead us to ultimately choosing the right career path for ourselves.
I found that Harvey’s speech was, for the most part, inspirational, as it made me realize that if we have an interest in something, then we can make a profession out of it. The speakers I signed up for were a heart transplant nurse, a pair of physical therapists and a CIA employee. Of all of them, my favorite was the heart transplant nurse.
It was interesting to learn about how many people receive heart transplants every year and how you there is always a job available as a heart transplant nurse.
The physical therapists were interesting, as I got to learn some cool facts about anatomy and the CIA agent talked about his work with the CIA and that it recruited anyone from any background to work in the CIA.
Overall, I felt that career day was a good experience. I got a better understanding of several professions, not just the one I want to pursue.
In addition, Career Day really gave me a better sense of what it means to be a professional in a certain workforce, because one’s interests leads someone to pursue their dream job in the end.
