With only one game remaining in the Varsity Girls Volleyball season, one thing is certain: the team is one of the best in the state. Starting the year with a 14-1 record, the girls have gone 17-2 for the season and with one game left against
“Coming out of preseason you never know how the team is going to come out,” said senior Captain Sisi Holderman. “I will not say I’m surprised we’ve played so well, but it is a great feeling to start the season so strong and create a noticeable gap between us and everyone else.”
According to Maxpreps.com, the team has been voted the unanimous favorite to win the state tournament this year for several weeks in a row. Their only loss in the conference was to a dominant Stone Bridge team and their five straight wins since then have proved their redemption.
“Going into the playoffs we do expect to win the conference at least. We can not look too far ahead but we still know that confidence is key, especially after having the season that we did,” said senior Captain and Columbia University commit Alex Andrejev. “Its very encouraging when you have a team that everyone contributes, and that’s exactly what we have. Our chemistry is excellent and its exciting to see what we can do as we move forward.”
“I think our success this year is a real testament to our outstanding senior leadership and determination week in and week out,” said junior and younger sister Rachel Andrejev. “We’ve come a long way and I think the entire team is ready to push into the postseason with our heads held high.”
The Washington post has frequently followed the team and written multiple stories featuring both sisters. Despite aspirations to go undefeated this year after their 4-0 start, a two loss season is as close as they’ve come to that goal since their historic team several years ago when Alex was a freshmen. Her, along with five other seniors have led the volleyball team to yet another successful season.
