Fans of the batman movies were shocked in late August when Ben Affleck was announced as the newest “Batman” in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman film. In response to the announcement, the internet fired up with vast criticism of the choice. There were numerous debates as to whether or not Affleck could pull off playing “Batman”, or match up to the rank of his predecessors like Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight series.
Though Affleck is known for films such as “Argo” and “Good will Hunting,” he has never really been considered the Superhero type, unless you can count 2003’s lukewarm “Daredevil.” nevertheless, Affleck’s recent success with “Argo” can prove to some that by playing batman, he is not just someone who can skillfully act in and direct political dramas. The film could show a new side of him, one that involves more action than some of his previous films. In addition, Affleck’s casting of batman indicates how his star power can make Henry Cavill’s Superman a unique competition, given that when Cavill was cast as superman, he was a relative unknown.
Personally, I feel that Affleck’s casting in the film is not a bad choice, given that with his unique resume of acting credits, he could definitely pull off batman. He even shares the same physical characteristics as batman and is very in shape for the role. His turn would be unique from the previous incarnations of batman, in that he can put a new twist on an iconic character. Either way, I can’t wait to see what twists Affleck will bring to the new flick coming in 2015.
