Over the past few snow days, individuals vandalized the rock outside Langley, spray-painting red letters that read “THIS IS OUR TOWN”. The rock had been recently painted by the Langley Relay For Life committee in honor of Maddy Nguyen’s mother, Bo, who passed last December.
While vandalism of the rock is typical come basketball season, many students and members of the RFL committee are insulted by the destruction of Nguyen’s sentiment to her late mother.
“I’m not mad cause I know my mom would be disappointed in me for getting angry, I’m just a little ashamed,” said Nguyen in a Tweet.
“I think it’s extremely disrespectful to both Langley and the American Cancer Society. To vandalize something that was bringing awareness about Langley and McLean’s joint Relay For Life to the community,” said RFL Committee Member Becca Pifer.
This year’s Relay For Life of Langley-McLean is trying to incorporate the McLean High School community as well. Committee Member Caroline Wilson said that “It’s obnoxious because McLean is part of the committee so they’re kinda vandalizing themselves.”
“I feel kinda angry but I fell kinda good because we’re gonna get them back when we play them on Friday,” said Committee Member Andrew McCausland.
