“I-Night is an event hosted every year by different clubs and different cultures,” said the head chair of International night, Sid Chawla. “Different cultures are represented on stage through cultural or art performances such as dancing, singing, and music.”
This year, the chairs of International Night hope to expand on their success from last year. “It’s more professional this year,” said Chawla. “We are selling tickets this year because we need to raise money to put more into I-Night and make it better.”
Another change will be the food provided. “Last year we had very little food, but this year we will have a lot more free food from across the world and from different ethnicities such as Spanish, Indian, Chinese, French and there will be free Chipotle,” said Chawla.
The events will include a variety of different cultural performances such as Bollywood dances, Chinese dances, Korean singing, salsa performances, Kung Fu, belly dancing, and performances from the Poi Club. “There will also be a fashion show that exhibits all the traditional garments from across the world,” said Chawla.
Along with all the traditional attractions, Ryan McElveen will also be attending Langley’s I-Night this year along with a henna artist who will be giving free henna tattoos.
Tickets are being sold for five dollars and while some of the money is going towards improving I-Night, most of the money will be donated towards a good cause. “Most of the profits are going to international charities,” said Chawla.
The main purpose of I-Night is to encompass all of the vibrant cultures present at Langley. “I-Night is a great way to break the stereotype and to make it known across the county that Langley is a diverse school,” said Chawla.
